How to Get to London

London is one of the most accessible cities in the world, with several options for getting here:

By Air: London has six major airports:

  • Heathrow Airport (LHR) – The busiest airport in the UK, offering flights from all over the world. Connected to the city via the Heathrow Express (15 min to Paddington), the Elizabeth Line (30-40 min to central London), and the Piccadilly Line (around 50 min).
  • Gatwick Airport (LGW) – Located south of London, with easy access via the Gatwick Express (30 min to Victoria), Thameslink trains, and National Express coaches.
  • Stansted Airport (STN) – Mostly serves budget airlines; reachable by Stansted Express (45 min to Liverpool Street) or National Express coaches.
  • Luton Airport (LTN) – Another budget airline hub, accessible via Thameslink trains (30-40 min to central London) and shuttle buses from the station.
  • London City Airport (LCY) – The most convenient airport for business travellers, located in East London with direct DLR access to the financial district and central London.
  • London Southend Airport (SEN) – The smallest of the six, serving a few European destinations, accessible via trains to Liverpool Street.

By Train: Eurostar services from Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam arrive at St Pancras International. Domestic trains connect London to all major UK cities from hubs such as King’s Cross, Euston, and Paddington. Read more about my experience using Eurostar.

By Coach: National Express and Megabus operate long-distance coach services to London Victoria Coach Station from cities across the UK and some European destinations.
